YOUTH OF THE NORTH

DOCUMENTARY FEATURE

SYNOPSIS

In -60°F, standard steel shatters; boiling water tossed into the air turns into snow; if you try to take your glasses off, a frozen chunk of your cheek is going with them. This is a typical winter day in Yakutsk, Russia. While teenagers all over the world complain that they’re trapped in their hometowns, Yakut kids actually are. This intimate documentary follows a group of young people over the course of one frigid winter as they wrestle with their developing ambitions, politics, and native identities in the coldest city on earth.
